For Traders and Investors, Risk Management is the important one. Risk management is the process of identifying, assessing, and controlling potential losses to protect capital.

Why Risk Management Matters

In trading and investing, the market can be unpredictable. Even the best analysis can go wrong. Risk management ensures that no single trade or investment wipes out your entire capital. The goal is to stay in the game long enough to benefit from your winning trades.

Key Principles of Risk Management

• Use only surplus money — Never trade with money you cannot afford to lose. Only invest money that you can survive without.
• Position Sizing — Never risk more than 1-2% of your total capital on a single trade. This keeps losses manageable.
• Stop Loss — Always set a stop loss before entering any trade. A stop loss is your pre-defined exit point if the trade goes against you.
• Risk:Reward Ratio — Always aim for a minimum 1:2 risk-to-reward ratio. If you risk ₹1000, your target should be at least ₹2000.
• Diversification — Don't put all your capital in one stock or sector. Spread your risk across multiple instruments.
• Avoid Overtrading — Taking too many trades increases exposure and often leads to emotional decisions. Quality over quantity.
